Sunday Social

SundaySocial.jpgWHAT IS SUNDAY SOCIAL?

Sunday Social is a very relaxed, chilled-out social event for LGBT people and their friends and families. The Sunshine Coast LGBT Resource Centre is a great place to visit, but not everyone gets to pop in during office hours. Sunday Social opens the doors on the weekend.

WHAT IS PROVIDED?

We provide coffee and tea, a few soft drinks and some fruit, lollies, chips, dips and similar. We pop on some music and bring out the chairs. We also provide full use of the Resource Centre including seating areas, outdoor spaces, barbeque, kitchen, computer and internet connection, and all the gay press and health information you could desire. QAHC volunteers attend every Sunday Social to answer questions or have a chat.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

If you have special dietary needs, or feel particularly generous, you might bring something special to eat and share. You and your friends might want to fire up the barbie--in which case you should bring your own slabs of meat, etc.

IS IT A CHANCE TO HOOK UP?

Sunday Social tries to encourage the social side of the LGBT community. When LGBT folks socialise, they're bound to meet new people including prospective sexual and romantic partners. Having said that, Sunday Social is about meeting new friends and relaxing with your old friends. Conversations shouldn't stop when you hear a relationship status you don't like, or when someone cuter walks through the door. Otherwise it very quickly becomes a Sunday Anti-Social!

WHEN IS SUNDAY SOCIAL ON?

Sunday Social is held from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm on the second and last Sunday of the month. Here are the dates for the next few months:

  • Sunday 8 November
  • Sunday 29 November
  • Sunday 13 December (Hot Christmas!)

A Recreational, Outdoor, Social Activity Group for the Older Wiser Gay Women in Townsville and surrounding districts.

Sunday 8th November
BYO BBQ / Picnic at Saunders Beach any time from 1pm till 6.30ish
This will be our xmas party before we all get too busy with our work and mas family xmas parties. Travel north on the Bruce Highway to Saunders Beach Road. Follow Saunders Beach Road to nearly it's end and turn left into Reef Street. Go to the end of Reef Street. There is a Rotunda for us to sit under, playground equipment and toilets. We may even get a game of beach cricket or volleyball happening.

13th - 16th November COME AND JOIN US
Weekend away: Fletcher River - Charters Towers
We are going on a  camping weekend to The Fletcher River just outside of Charters Towers. Lynda and Sue are going up Friday afternoon so will be set up.You will see our tarp and 4wd Maverick.

All are welcome to join us so come along, be it for the day or the whole weekend .There is freshwater swimming for adults and children, cold showers and toilets. You can go off exploring the area if you wish, or just sit around and have a lazy, relaxing weekend. You can also fish there, so take your rods and Ros and us have redclaw pots.

You will need all your camping gear, Lynda and I have a large tarp 14 x 12 ft which we set up for eating and cooking under, you also need to bring your own fresh drinking water. The Fletcher is 44km outside of Charters Towers on the Gregory Development Road or also called the Lynd Highway.

Directions: From Townsville when you come into Ch.Twrs keep going straight, you will go past the racecourse on the right and All Souls School on the left, keep going till you come to the Centenary park on your right, there will be a huge sign which says Gregory Dev Road or the Lynd Highway, turn right>>>>>>> and head out that way, you will pass the Eventide Retirement Village on your left and the Dalrymple Tourist Van Park also on your left, just keep going, if you get to Cairns you've gone to far.

They are also doing up the highway so be patient as there are a few slow signs and red lights, but you will eventually get there, takes about 1/2 to 3/4 hour.

You will come to Fletcher River Sign and a causeway crossing look to your left or right and you will see people camped.

There is NO MOBILE COVERAGE.

There are some photos in our photo gallery of the Fletcher if you wish to have a look, this is just a small part of the area, we hope to get the spot close to the toilets and showers and the good swimming area. That's why we are going up Friday afternoon.
